LATAM Airlines Brasil confirmed that a pilot based in São Paulo was detained by police prior to a scheduled flight.
According to Itatiaia, the 60-year-old pilot was taken into custody by São Paulo Civil Police during the boarding process of flight LA3900, which was scheduled to operate between São Paulo/Congonhas and Rio de Janeiro/Santos Dumont. The pilot is alleged to have links to a criminal network related to the sexual exploitation of minors.
In a statement, LATAM said the flight was operated as planned following the incident, with both departure and arrival taking place on time. The airline announced that an internal investigation has been launched and that it is cooperating with the relevant authorities.
Judicial proceedings are being carried out by the competent institutions in Brazil.
